John Healey responds to new research on first-time buyers

John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, responding to new research from Which? showing the financial pressure on first-time buyers, said:

“After nearly eight years of failure on housing under the Conservatives, hard-pressed first-time buyers are taking desperate measures to save for a first home of their own.

“Home-ownership rose under Labour but has fallen under the Tories and there are now a million fewer younger households owning a home than there were in 2010.

“Labour will build the low-cost homes to rent and buy that young people need, re-focus help to buy on first-time buyers and give local people first call on new homes built in their area.”
