Jonathan Ashworth responds to news that Coperforma owes the NHS £7 million
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to news that Coperforma owes the NHS more than £7 million, said:
“The ongoing Coperforma shambles is perhaps one of the very worst NHS privatisations of recent times.
“This firm provided a service so shockingly unreliable that patients were forced to wait hours for urgent care, even leaving elderly patients stuck at hospital for long periods after their appointments. They left ambulance drivers weeks without pay. It’s an absolute disgrace the NHS is still more than £7 million out of pocket thanks to this debacle.
“Patients are fed up of profiteering like this taking our NHS for a ride, so Labour will write to the Public Accounts Committee to demand an inquiry into this scandal.
“Labour will reverse Tory privatisation of the NHS and we will ensure a publicly provided NHS puts patients not profit first.”
