Jonathan Ashworth responds to claims that there has been a reduction in the NHS’s incineration capacity
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health and Social Care Secretary, responding to new claims that there has been a reduction in the NHS’s incineration capacity, said:
“Ministers must now urgently provide evidence there has been no reduction in the NHS’s clinical waste incineration capacity, and that Trusts have sufficient contingency plans in place to deal with their hazardous waste.
“Ministers effectively made the decision to terminate these contracts, so will Trusts be given financial support if legal action is taken against them?
“The Government must also reassure patients and staff that these temporary waste storage units do not pose any risk to public health, whilst ensuring full contingency plans are in operation.”
