Jonathan Reynolds responds to IFS research showing working-age benefits are set to reach record levels

Jonathan Reynolds MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to IFS research showing working-age benefits are set to reach record levels, said:

“It is unbelievable that the Government is considering a cut to Universal Credit in the midst of jobs crisis, when many families are struggling to make ends meet.

“Labour believes Universal Credit should be replaced with a system which offers a proper social security safety net and decent support to all.

“Every job lost is a tragedy. This Government’s failure to get a grip on this jobs crisis, and properly support businesses to keep staff on, has placed millions of jobs at risk.”
