Julie Cooper response to nearly two in five GPs planning on leaving the profession in the next five years

Julie Cooper MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, responding to the news that nearly two in five GPs plan on leaving the profession in the next five years, said:

“These extremely concerning findings are damning evidence of a system that is coming apart at the seams.

“The Tories’ relentless underfunding of primary care services has left practitioners struggling to keep services going – and it is patients who pay the price.

“Labour will increase the share of NHS funding that goes to primary care, including a new £500m investment fund.

“Theresa May has to get a grip and provide a long term solution to this crisis in General Practice.”
