Justin Madders responds to Theresa May’s Conference Speech
Justin Madders MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, responding to Theresa May’s Conference Speech, said:
“Once again the Tories have proven they can’t be trusted with our NHS. As flattering as pinching NHS policies from Labour’s manifesto is, patients and staff need a Labour Government with a firm commitment to ending eight years of Tory austerity and privatisation.
“The Tories are also failing vulnerable cancer patients and their families right across the country. The crucial two-month waiting time target has not been met consistently since 2013, whilst the appalling diagnosis times are a badge of shame for Theresa May’s government. Back in 2017, Labour pledged to set up a UK network of cancer early diagnosis centres, and we went further by pledging to more than halve the time patients wait for treatment.
“The Prime Minister’s Health Secretary has also wrongly claimed that public satisfaction with the NHS is at a record high. Quite the opposite is true: public satisfaction with the NHS reached a record high in 2010 following years of substantial investment under Labour and is currently on a downward trajectory. That’s the reality of our NHS under the Tories.
“This shambolic underfunding and mismanagement of our NHS cannot be allowed to continue.”
