Justin Madders responds to latest track and trace statistics

Justin Madders MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, responding to latest track and trace statistics, said:

“It is disappointing that we are still seeing little improvement in the time-critical elements of track and trace that are vital to halting the spread of the virus. Virtually everyone who has a home test is waiting longer than 24 hours to get their results and the percentage of people who tested positive and weren’t contacted remains far too high.

“On top of that nearly half of the close contacts of those who tested positive could not be reached. That shows the importance of a fully functioning app.

“Perhaps most disappointingly the percentage of people who tested positive but couldn’t be contacted because they didn’t provide details went up. This is basic stuff – nobody should be getting into the system without contact details being provided in the first place. Ministers need to urgently set out how they are going to improve performance of track and trace.”
