Karen Bradley’s abject inaction has damaged the peace process and people’s trust in politics – Tony Lloyd

Tony Lloyd MP, Labour’s Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, commenting on Karen Bradley’s failed talks today in Stormont, said:

“It is clear that Karen Bradley has lost the confidence of the Stormont parties and should now accelerate the process to find and appoint an independent chair of talks who can help deliver a lasting deal.

“Karen Bradley has had plenty of chances to bring parties together for constructive talks in the last eight months but her abject inaction has damaged the peace process and people’s trust in politics.

“Tomorrow’s British-Irish Inter-Governmental Conference should be an opportunity to inject fresh life into talks. Karen Bradley must ensure that she works with her Dublin counterparts to bring pressure upon all parties.

“For too long the people of Northern Ireland have been left in limbo by this Tory Government. Now is the time to put party political interests aside and work for the interests of everyone”.
