Kate Green responds to Early Years Commission report

Kate Green MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the joint Fabian Society and Centre for Social Justice’s Early Years Commission report, said:

“Early years provision is a critical foundation stone for every child’s future learning and life chances. Yet the Conservatives are allowing the early years sector to collapse under the pressure of Covid, with 2,500 providers lost since the start of this year.

“This comes on the back of a decade of Conservative underfunding and mismanagement which saw 1,000 children’s centres close their doors for good.

“Labour’s Children’s Recovery Plan commits to invest in early learning to ensure every child can bounce back from the pandemic but the Government is again neglecting this crucial stage of development. It’s time the Conservatives match Labour’s ambition for our children and prioritise this vital infrastructure as we emerge from the pandemic.”
