Kate Green responds to Education Policy Institute report
Kate Green MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the Education Policy Institute’s report on the package of recovery measures needed to ensure no child is left behind after the pandemic, said:
“This report shows the scale of the Conservatives’ failure to deliver on the Prime Minister’s promises on children’s recovery.
“Their inadequate National Tutoring Programme is reaching less than 2% of pupils, their academic mentors are reaching just one in 8,277 pupils and their stealth cut to pupil premium will take support away from those children most likely to have struggled to learn from home. The Government’s lack of ambition is failing our children.
“Labour wants children to be at the heart of our national recovery. Our Bright Future taskforce will set out bold recovery policies, such as catch-up breakfast clubs, which are ambitious for every child’s learning and wellbeing.”
