Keeley response to Education Policy Institute’s report on children and young people’s access to mental health services

Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Member for Mental Health, responding to the Education Policy Institute’s report on children and young people’s access to mental health services, said:

“The Tories’ repeated failures on mental health are having an appalling impact on children and young people with mental health problems.

“Young people are being denied access to treatment that they desperately need because eligibility criteria are being set far too high. And those children who are being denied access to mental health services are offered little in the way of alternative support.

“This Government is tinkering around the edges of a crisis in young people’s mental health. By contrast, the next Labour government will increase the proportion of mental health budgets that go to children and young people, and we will ring-fence funding so that more of it reaches the front line.”
