Labour calls on Health Secretary to explain cuts to health workers’ pay despite claiming he would reward “heroes”
Labour has called on Matt Hancock to explain why the Government is breaking its promise to reward health care workers for their efforts throughout the pandemic.
On multiple occasions Matt Hancock has publicly declared NHS staff should receive the pay they deserve, regularly describing healthcare workers as “heroes.”
However, the one per cent pay rise proposal announced by the Government will amount to a real terms pay cut after inflation.
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, said:
“These promises to nurses now lie in tatters. Boris Johnson is cutting nurses’ pay. As night follows day, you simply can’t trust the Tories with the NHS.”
