Labour responds to findings that all areas of maternity services are performing below expected levels or are inadequate

Justin Madders MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, commenting on the findings of the Health and Social Care Committee, which has found all areas of maternity services are performing below expected levels or are inadequate, said:

“Expectant mothers deserve reassurance that the local maternity unit will give them the very best care the NHS has to offer. It is shocking that so many maternity services fall so short of this.

“Under this Government, maternity units have been understaffed and under pressure, with successive reviews not acted on. Ministers’ failure to learn the lessons of previous scandals is robbing families of the safe and joyful birth experience they should expect.”
