Labour responds to Prime Minister’s announcement on wedding restrictions
Seema Malhotra MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Business and Consumers, responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement on which wedding restrictions will remain after 21 June, said:
“It’s good news the wedding industry has finally been given equity with the wider hospitality sector, having faced tougher restrictions during the crisis.
“But ministers must be aware that despite the cap on numbers lifting, social distancing requirements including rules about dancing mean that some planned weddings will not go ahead. The industry is already on its knees and was relying on these summer weddings.
“It is so wrong that businesses are going to suffer because of the Government’s failure to handle our borders and the Delta variant. There was nothing inevitable about this delay. Economic measures must remain in step with public health restrictions to support affected businesses, which must not pay the price for this Government’s incompetence.”
