Liz Kendall responds to figures showing nearly a third of care home staff are yet to receive a Covid vaccine

Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Social Care, responding to new figures showing that nearly 28 per cent of care home staff are yet to receive the Covid vaccine, said:

“Ministers promised that all social care staff would be vaccinated by mid-February yet the latest data shows worryingly low rates of take up in some groups.

“Nationally, 28 per cent of staff in elderly care homes in England have still not been vaccinated, rising to 45 per cent in regions like London. And almost half of all staff who provide care in people’s own homes, and staff in residential care for younger adults, have yet to be vaccinated either.

“The Government urgently needs a strategy to increase uptake amongst frontline care workers. Ministers should work closely with care providers, local councils and trade unions to tackle lies and misinformation about the vaccine and ensure the easiest possible access to jabs in the local community.”
