Liz Kendall responds to latest Alzheimer’s Society report highlighting strain placed on families by coronavirus
Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Social Care Minister, responding to the latest report from Alzheimer’s Society, said:
“This report provides yet more evidence of the terrible strain Covid-19 has put on families whose loved ones have dementia. Many families have been pushed to breaking point taking on extra responsibilities for caring for their relatives, and thousands more have been unable to visit their loved ones in residential homes.
“Families have at best been an afterthought, and at worst ignored. This must now change: the government should ensure family carers have the support they need to cope, including proper respite breaks, and designate families with relatives in care homes as ‘key workers’ so they are a priority for testing so they can safely start visiting again.”
