Local Government should not be forced to pick up the bill for Carillion’s collapse – Andrew Gwynne
Andrew Gwynne MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, responding to the hike in fees for councils with Carillion contracts, said:
“Local Government should not be forced to pick up the bill for Carillion’s collapse.
“Almost eight years of cuts under the Tories have devastated our local Government services and left children’s services facing a £2 billion funding gap by 2020.
“With the uncertainty caused by this collapse and now the risk posed by struggling Capita, forcing our councils to take on these additional fees feels like a kick in teeth.
“The next Labour Government will support our councils to bring our public services back in-house. The Government must now do the same.”
