Looked after children statistics lay bare real heartache

Emma Lewell-Buck MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Families, commenting on the latest statistics of children looked after by local authorities in England, said:

“Today’s figures lay bare the real heartache caused by this Government’s savage cuts to preventative, early help and support services, the very services that can keep children out of care and with their families.

“The Government is missing valuable opportunities to keep children in the care of their families. Not only does that add pressure to budgets already decimated by austerity, it also leaves children and their families with deep and enduring emotional scars.

“This crisis has long passed breaking point, the Government needs to act now.”
