Luke Pollard responds to Committee on Climate Change report on land use

Luke Pollard MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to today’s report by the Committee on Climate Change on ‘Land use: Policies for a Net Zero UK’, said:

“Everyone except the Conservative government knows how serious the climate and ecological crisis is for our planet. Many consumers are already making more sustainable choices and changing their habits in response to the climate emergency.

“Food producers and supermarkets need to step up and do their bit to reduce carbon in the food chain. That means more local, British produce, buying fruit and vegetables in season and not relying on food grown on the other side of the planet.

“Consumers need far better information on labelling so they can make more informed choices on sustainable eating.

“Consumers, business and government all need to act together to cut carbon and take the action the crisis demands.”
