Margaret Greenwood responds to Trussell Trust report on food banks and Universal Credit

Margaret Greenwood MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on the findings of the Trussell Trust report ‘Left Behind: Is Universal Credit Truly Universal?’ said:

“The scale of food bank use under the Tories is a source of national shame and the findings in this report are shocking.

“Interviewees raised poor administration of Universal Credit again and again.

“Some people are still facing extremely long waits for an initial payment, pushing people into debt and arrears, with serious impacts on the health of many.

“The Government is still failing to fix Universal Credit and people are paying the price.”
