Mike Kane comments on the National Audit Office report on Ofsted’s inspection of schools

Mike Kane MP, Labour’s Shadow Schools Minister, commenting on the National Audit Office report on Ofsted’s inspection of schools, said:

“Even Ofsted has now fallen victim to the funding and staff shortages hitting the education system thanks to Tory cuts. This is just the latest sign that the cupboard is bare, and the Government should match Labour’s pledge of new investment in schools.

“With the NAO warning that the Government cannot be sure that the current inspection system actually raises standards or improves the quality of children’s lives, you have to ask who inspects the inspectors? We need to be clear that the system is working.

“A Labour government will review the system, ensuring that all schools are publicly accountable and that learning does not come second to meeting the demands of a high-stakes accountability regime that isn’t fit for purpose.”
