Ministers need to take responsibility for the pothole epidemic on our local roads – Roberta Blackman-Woods
Roberta Blackman-Woods MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Planning, responding to reports that freezing temperatures will cause more potholes and the NAO reporting today on cuts to funding for winter repairs, said:
“Ministers need to take responsibility for the pothole epidemic on our local roads.
“As the NAO report out today shows, Conservative austerity measures mean councils are struggling to provide local services and look after our local road network. Funding for Winter Service has been cut by 38% and spending on planning and development has fallen by 52.8% in real terms since 2010.
“This Tory Government has overseen the destruction of local public services and facilities with little care or understanding of the consequences. We need to elect as many Labour councillors as possible on 3 May to stand up to the Conservatives’ cuts.”
