MPs say children’s services are at breaking point – Andrew Gwynne responds
Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Communities Secretary, responding to a report by the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee that says children’s services are at breaking point, said:
“This report confirms our worst fears. Despite the vital role that councils play in supporting the most vulnerable families, they have seen half of their budgets stripped away, leading to a crisis in services like children’s social care.
“As the select committee has warned, the people giving support to vulnerable children have been pushed to breaking point.
“Voters have a chance tomorrow to say they want investment in local services, by electing Labour councils. A Labour government will end the Tory cuts and provide sustainable funding for councils.”
