Our nation’s defences require investment not excuses – Nia Griffith
Nia Griffith MP, Labour’s Shadow Defence Secretary, responding to the Public Accounts Committee’s report on the Defence Equipment Plan 2017 to 2027, said:
“This report paints a damning picture of a department in complete chaos.
“The government has repeatedly ignored warnings about the state of the equipment plan. So it is no surprise at all that we find ourselves in this calamitous situation where there is not enough money to pay for the kit that we need.
“Our nation’s defences require proper investment not more excuses and denial. It is time for Conservative Ministers to address the enormous affordability gap that has emerged on their watch, instead of simply kicking the can down the road in the desperate hope that this will all be sorted out sometime in the future.”
