NHS England needs 4,000 extra beds – Jonathan Ashworth responds

Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine report showing that the NHS in England needs over 4,000 extra beds this winter to avoid ‘corridor care’, said:

“The Tories have cut over 15,000 beds and, combined with a decade of underfunding, we’ve seen over 600,000 patient trolley waits in the past year.

“The truth is our NHS is now in a year-round crisis because of this Tory government, and it is patients who are suffering every day as a result.”
