NHS financial sustainability – Ashworth responds
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health and Social Care Secretary, responding to the NAO’s report on NHS financial sustainability
“The Tories have spent nine years running down the NHS, imposing the biggest cash squeeze in its history, with swingeing cuts to public health services and the slashing of social care services.
“Today we have yet another report warning us that money isn’t being spent in the right way, with ministers robbing Peter to pay Paul by moving money designated for longer-term investment into day-to-day spending. Waiting times continue to slip, cash injections haven’t improved the financial performance of trusts and even the Government’s long awaited vision for the NHS failed to address the workforce, which this report again highlights as being a huge issue.”
