Nick Thomas-Symonds responds to calls for increased SFO funding
Nick Thomas-Symonds, Labour’s Shadow Security Minister, responding to the Attorney General’s calls for increased core funding to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), said:
“For too long the Tories have held back on giving the SFO the sufficient core funding needed to enhance the depth and quality of in-house expertise.
“As Labour has highlighted, relying on blockbuster funding and temporary surges in staff, prevents the SFO building long-term, consistent expertise capacity.
“The charges brought against Barclays today followed five years of investigation; the Attorney General should be pressing for as much core funding as possible to help the SFO carry out its vital work.”
