ONS employment figures – Marsha de Cordova responds

Marsha de Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Disabled People, commenting on this morning ONS employment figures, said:

“The rise in unemployment is really worrying as the government heads the country towards a No Deal Brexit that threatens people’s jobs and our economy.

“Average pay has still not returned to the level before the financial crisis over 10 years ago, and the number of workers on zero-hours contracts has risen sharply, leaving people trapped in low paid, insecure work and struggling to meet basic household bills.

“Labour will end in-work poverty by introducing a real living wage of at least £10 an hour and by investing in the economy to create good jobs that last and lift people out of poverty.”
