Peter Dowd responds to Liz Truss attack

Peter Dowd MP, Labour’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to comments made by Liz Truss attacking trade unions, lawyers, doctors and teachers, said:

“It is a sad state of affairs to see the Chief Secretary to the Treasury attacking the hard-working professionals that run our health services, uphold the rule of law and educate our children, while calling for further deregulation and a bonfire of workers’ rights.

“The Chief Secretary speaks of tackling vested interests but it’s clear that she has aligned her views with right-wing lobbyists and their obsessive race to the bottom. The reality is that the real barrier to growth remains this out of touch Conservative Government and its failed economic policies.

“Unlike the Tories, the next Labour Government will stand up for the many, and not just the interests of a privileged few.”
