Rebecca Long-Bailey responding to National Grid warning

Rebecca Long-Bailey, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, commenting on the warning from The National Grid that gas supply is running low due to the adverse weather conditions, said:

“The Tories have failed to properly plan for the worst cold snap for years. A lack of vital investment and failure to properly insulate our homes has forced four million households into fuel poverty.

“Their failure to intervene in Centrica’s closure of the Rough storage facility highlights their lack of foresight and planning for the winter. We desperately need an energy system that works for consumers, not profit.

“Labour will put an end to the exploitation by the privatised monopoly that controls our energy supply by bringing our energy system back into public hands. We will introduce an emergency price cap and will insulate four million homes as a priority.”
