Rebecca Long Bailey response to SSE price rises

Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, commenting on SSE price rises announced today, said:

“The Government has let energy companies get away with hammering bill payers with price hike after price hike.

“If the Tories had introduced an energy price cap like they promised, instead of spending the past year dithering and ducking responsibility, households wouldn’t be facing yet another squeeze on their incomes.

“Labour will fix our broken energy market by introducing an emergency price cap to ensure that the average bill remains below £1,000 per year and create publicly owned, locally accountable energy companies and co-operatives to rival existing private energy suppliers.”
