Report on the prescribing of potentially addictive drugs – Jonathan Ashworth responds
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to Public Health England’s report on the prescribing of potentially addictive drugs, said:
“These are worrying findings and will rightly reinforce calls from campaigners for action to tackle growing addiction to opioids and prescription drugs.
“Ensuring everyone with an addiction problem receives the support and care they deserve will be a personal priority of mine.”
Notes to Editors:
- Almost 12 million adults in England were prescribed potentially addictive drugs such as sleeping pills and painkillers last year, with half taking them long-term, a new report says. The Government-ordered review was led by Public Health England.
