Richard Burgon responds to Parole Board proposals by the Ministry of Justice
Richard Burgon MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to proposals and a new consultation on the functioning of the Parole Board announced by the Ministry of Justice, said:
“The Worboys case underlined once and for all the need for change in the way that the Parole Board functions. Greater transparency and the ability to more easily challenge its decisions are essential.
“Widespread change needs to be matched by a proper increase in funding, if the system is to ensure public confidence. The Government cannot seriously expect more to be done while, at the same, slashing the Ministry of Justice’s budget.”
