Royal Mail profit fall just another indictment of privatisation

Gill Furniss MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Postal Services, responding to Royal Mail’s announcement of a 27% drop in pre-tax profits, said:

“It’s clear privatisation has benefited Royal Mail bosses and private shareholders at the cost of consumers, workers and the public at large. This is just another indictment of this Tory Government, which favours outsourcing and privatisation that has been so detrimental to our nation.

“A Labour government will bring Royal Mail into public ownership to ensure better services, better pay and conditions for workers, and to see profits are reinvested back into these essential services.

“Any plans by Royal Mail’s bosses to fix this mess and increase profits must not rest on raising the price of stamps and cutting jobs. The CEO should take a pay cut before cutting the jobs of ordinary workers as part of his overhaul.”
