Seema Malhotra comments on the ONS Business survey data released today
Seema Malhotra MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Business and Consumers, commenting on the ONS Business survey data released today, said:
“It’s good news that our economy is reopening. However we are not out of the woods yet and some industries, especially the hospitality industry, face significant difficulties and will take longer to recover.
“A quarter of those working in the arts, entertainment and recreation industry are still on furlough and over two thirds of these businesses reported their turnover is lower than usual for this time of year.
“Labour would give businesses flexibility to repay debt they have taken on during the crisis, linked to what they are making, to give them time to get back on their feet.
“As we look ahead to June 21, businesses need clear communication from government about any possible changes to the roadmap. And as Labour has said throughout this crisis, public health measures must go hand in hand with economic measures.”
