Serious weaknesses in sex offenders rehabilitation – Richard Burgon responds
Richard Burgon MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to HM Inspectorate of Prisons finding serious weaknesses in the rehabilitation of sex offenders at HMP Ashfield, said:
“This is a deeply concerning report that casts further doubt on the government’s strategy for reducing the risk posed by the most serious sex offenders.
“The government has serious questions to answer about why staff are not receiving proper training or supervision and why there are not enough interventions to reduce reoffending.
“The Secretary of State must explain why these failures have been allowed to occur and urgently set out what action he is taking to protect the public.”
