The sharp rise in school exclusions should be a matter of deep concern for this Government – Mike Kane
Mike Kane MP, Labour’s Shadow Schools Minister, commenting on Government data showing the number of exclusions at school has increased to over 40 per day, said:
“The sharp rise in exclusions should be a matter of deep concern for this Government, but they have shown no sign of addressing it.
“The number of children with complex needs is rising, yet the Tories’ cuts to support services and their continual underfunding of the high-needs budget has left many teachers, schools and Local Authorities unable to offer the support these children need.
“The next Labour government will invest in our schools, increasing per pupil funding in real terms, ensuring that every child gets the support they need in a National Education Service for the many, not the few.”
