“Shocking” report predicts extra 1.5 million children will be forced into poverty under Tory cuts – Margaret Greenwood

Margaret Greenwood MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, responding to the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s final Cumulative Impact Assessment of Government changes to taxes and social security since 2010, said:

“This report is shocking, but unsurprising. EHRC’s analysis predicts an extra 1.5 million children will be forced into poverty by 2022, and shows that disabled people and single parents are bearing the brunt of Government spending cuts.

“At the same time as cutting in-work support for low-paid families, the Conservatives are handing tax cuts to the super-rich.

“Labour will transform the social security system so that it offers genuine support to people who need it. We will reform the Government’s failing Universal Credit programme and introduce a £10 an hour Real Living Wage.”
