Stephen Kinnock comments on the passing of China’s National People’s Congress ‘patriots governing Hong Kong’ resolution
Stephen Kinnock MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Asia and the Pacific, commenting on the passing of China’s National People’s Congress ‘patriots governing Hong Kong’ resolution, said:
“Beijing’s decision represents the final nail in the coffin for democracy in Hong Kong. As a signatory to the Sino-British Declaration the UK has both a legal duty and a moral responsibility to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Hong Kong whose rights are being eroded.
“The UK government must take immediate action to identify and sanction individuals guilty of serious human rights violations in Hong Kong and ensure that the new British Nationals (Overseas) visa pathway is affordable to all who are eligible, not only the wealthy.”
