Stormont talks announced – Tony Lloyd responds
Tony Lloyd MP, Labour’s Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, commenting on the recent announcement of fresh talks to restore devolution in Northern Ireland, said:
“The Secretary of State has taken on board Labour’s repeated calls for these talks to be chaired by independent figures. But the Prime Minister must now commit to using any influence she has in order to get a deal across the line.
“People in Northern Ireland have looked to their politicians while public services have been in crisis, the challenges of Brexit have been left unanswered and Northern Ireland’s violent legacy has resurfaced.
“Now Northern Ireland’s political leaders have an opportunity to show leadership, to compromise in the best interests of devolution and those they seek to represent and to enter these talks with open minds and a willingness to make it work.”
