Support for Mortgage Interest claimants are saying no to loans – Margaret Greenwood
Commenting on figures published today that show 60% of Support for Mortgage Interest claimants contacted by Serco on DWP’s behalf have declined the loan, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Margaret Greenwood said:
“Claimants are clearly saying no to the loan that the Government introduced to replace social security payments.
“This is a means-tested payment and nearly 90 per cent of claimants are either older or disabled people. There is a danger they could suffer real hardship as a result.
“The Government must now admit that its policy is a complete failure and think again before people are driven into poverty and their homes are put at risk.”
