Suspects interviewed without appropriate adult in 100,000 cases – Diane Abbott responds

Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, commenting on a report stating that last year suspects were interviewed without an appropriate adult present in over 100,000 cases in England and Wales, said:

“This report is welcome, yet deeply worrying.

“The Government should act quickly to implement the report’s recommendations. Failure to do so will diminish the police’s ability to carry out their duties responsibly and put vulnerable adults at further risk.”
