“The Tories are restricting journalists because Boris Johnson can’t stand up to scrutiny” – Tom Watson
Tom Watson, Labour’s Deputy Leader and Shadow Culture Secretary, commenting on Boris Johnson’s refusal on LBC this morning to condemn Tory plans to revoke Channel 4’s broadcasting licence:
“It is simply wrong for Boris Johnson to threaten Channel 4 in this way this morning. It is rightly for Ofcom to consider licences not the Government.
“We need a strong free press. But the Tories are restricting journalists because Boris Johnson can’t stand up to scrutiny. This campaign, Boris Johnson has banned the Daily Mirror from its battle bus, ducked the Andrew Neil interview and now attempted to threaten and intimidate Channel 4.
“Boris Johnson has got to stop these bully boy tactics now and face the public.”
