Tory austerity is holding young people back – Cat Smith

Cat Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Voter Engagement and Youth Affairs, commenting on newly published ONS statistics about young people’s career aspirations versus reality, said:

“Young people should aim high and be able to realise their aspirations but these findings show that Tory austerity is holding them back.

“The younger generation have been disproportionately hit by austerity, from a tough jobs market to struggling with the high cost of housing and rising student debt, this Government has no plans to address the challenges they face. The Tories are failing young people across the country.

“Labour will stand up for young people and build a fairer society where every young person has the opportunity to succeed.”
