Tulip Siddiq comments on report for the need for more funding to support children’s services
Tulip Siddiq MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Early Years, commenting on a report by Action for Children and the Early Intervention Foundation highlighting the importance of early intervention and the need for more funding to support these services, said:
“This report provides yet more worrying evidence that the coronavirus crisis is having a devastating impact on the most vulnerable children in our society.
“Early intervention is vital to ensure children get the support they need, yet these services in particular have been devastated by a decade of cuts. Staff in child protection, mental health and other children’s social care services are working tirelessly and inovatively to provide support in this pandemic, but there are real concerns about their ability to cope with the impact of Covid-19.
“We are urging the Government to invest properly in children’s services so that the next generation are not scarred by often traumatic experiences of this crisis.”
