Wayne David responds to NAO finding that the MoD’s Defence Equipment plan is not affordable
Wayne David MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement, responding to the National Audit Office’s finding that the MoD’s Defence Equipment plan is not affordable, said:
“This is a staggering finding which raises serious doubt about the Government’s management of the defence budget.
“It is simply astonishing that the Government is presiding over a funding hole of up to £20.8bn, but the fact that significant equipment programmes such as the Type 31 frigates are not budgeted for at all just beggars belief.
“This serious failing by the Government has grave consequences for our defence capabilities and national security. You cannot do security on the cheap and it is time for Ministers to get a grip and ensure that we have the investment in our nation’s defences that the public rightly expect.”
