Whoever succeeds Tony Hall must address challenges the BBC faces – Tracy Brabin
Tracy Brabin MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, commenting on the news Lord Tony Hall is to step down as the BBC Director General, said:
“Tony Hall leaves the BBC during a turbulent time for the corporation and his commitment to public service broadcast should be applauded.
“Whoever succeeds Tony Hall in this important role must address the many challenges the BBC faces today, taking action to close the gender pay gap, promote diversity and to protect free TV licenses for over 75s.
“In these circumstances, and with Charter Renewal approaching, it is vital that the BBC can choose its next Director General away from the fear of, or any, political interference.”
