Zaghari-Ratcliffe prisoner exchange should be taken seriously – Fabian Hamilton
Fabian Hamilton, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Peace and Disarmament, commenting on reports of a possible prisoner exchange for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, said:
“While this suggestion of prisoner exchange should be taken with extreme caution, it should also be taken seriously. The exchange of prisoners is usually difficult to arrange, but is even more so when multiple countries are involved. I would urge the government to work closely with our allies in the United States, Australia, and Germany to ensure all political prisoners in Iran are released safely.
“Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been illegally imprisoned on trumped-up charges for three years. If this case is a priority for the Foreign Office, it must engage with the Iranians as quickly as possible in order to achieve an agreement that sees an innocent British woman finally reunited with her family.”
