Branch Women’s Officer

Support women’s participation in your branch and help build a welcoming and active local party.

As Branch Women’s Officer, you help ensure women members are supported, included and able to take part fully in branch activity. You also play a role in helping your branch engage women in the local community and build participation.

This role suits someone who is approachable, organised and committed to supporting women’s involvement in the Labour Party.

What success looks like

A strong Branch Women’s Officer helps create a branch that is:

  • Inclusive – women feel welcome, supported and able to participate
  • Active – more women are involved in meetings, campaigning and activity
  • Supportive – women are encouraged to get involved and build confidence
  • Connected – strong links between branch and CLP activity

What you’ll do

Support women’s participation

  • Encourage women members to attend meetings and get involved in branch activity
  • Support women to take on roles within the branch and CLP and stand for elected office
  • Welcome new women members and help them feel part of the branch

Build a welcoming and inclusive environment

  • Help ensure meetings and events are accessible and relevant to women
  • Create opportunities for women to meet, connect and support each other
  • Encourage participation in discussions and decision-making

Support local campaigning and engagement

  • Support campaigning that engages women in your local area
  • Encourage women members to take part in campaign activity
  • Help ensure local activity reflects issues affecting women

Work with the CLP and officers

  • Work with your Branch Chair and Secretary to support engagement
  • Link with the CLP Women’s Officer and Women’s Branch where appropriate
  • Support communication between the branch and CLP

How you’ll work with others

You’ll work with officers and members to support inclusion, engagement and participation.

  • Branch Chair – supports a welcoming and inclusive culture
  • Branch Secretary – helps communicate with members
  • CLP Women’s Officer – coordinates activity and shares ideas
  • Other officers – support wider member engagement

  • Encourage participation – support confidence and involvement

  • Stay visible – make sure members know your role

Your first 90 days

  • Introduce yourself to women members in your branch
  • Connect with the CLP Women’s Officer
  • Review how inclusive current activity feels
  • Support or organise your first event or meeting
