Steve Reed comments on Ofwat’s annual Water Company Performance Report

Steve Reed MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, commenting on Ofwat’s annual Water Company Performance Report which found that less than half of companies have achieved their performance targets on sewage, said:

“This devastating report demonstrates the complete failure of water companies to act on the sewage scandal.

“There can be no more damning metaphor for 13 years of Conservative failure than stinking, toxic sewage lapping up on our rivers, lakes and seas.

“This scandal is their fault. The Conservatives cut back enforcement and monitoring against water companies releasing this filth, and are now failing to prosecute them when they are blatantly breaking the law.

“In government, Labour will force the water companies to clean up their filth through automatic, severe and instant fines and make bosses responsible for their negligence.”
